If you are looking to up your skincare game, the best thing you can do is to get obsessive about sunscreen. And applying in the morning is not enough my friends. Here are some of my general sunscreen rules:
- Re-apply every 2 hours if you are out in the sun. (PLUS wear a hat)
- If you are mostly indoors and not near windows, re-apply before heading out.
- Always carry sunscreen in your bag / purse for reapplication.
- Be openly obsessive about it. There is no shame in this and being self conscious about reapplying is not worth sun damage. Every time the sun hits your face, that could be another sun spot added. Don’t do it!!!
- Mineral sunscreens are always going to be better than chemical but they often have a white cast and to me, it feels a bit pore clogging because they are generally thicker in consistency and particles. So my general rule is, if I am going to be doing a very outdoorsy sunny activity (swimming, hiking, watching my kids play sports, biking), then I will use mineral sunscreen. For all other daily average sun exposure activities, I stick with chemical because it’s the easier choice and feels better on my skin. Whichever you use, it’s just better to use it more proactively and throughout the day.
Here are my favorite Korean sunscreens at the moment. BTW, most Korean sunscreens are chemical. I will go over the different between these two on another blog.
- Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Sunscreen: This is the top most popular sunscreen in Korea. It is lightweight, no white casting, and affordable.
- Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Tone Up Sunscreen: I have also tried the Tone-Up version and it’s fantastic. The
- Isntree Onion Newpair Sunscreen: This sunscreen is almost impossible to find in Korean Olive & Young stores! But you can try it out on Amazon. No white cast and great for sensitive skin.
- Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Natural Sunscreen:Â I have used about 5 bottles of these so far. Lightweight, moisturizing because of the hyaluronic, great application.
So now go forth and block that sun away. Reapplying sunblock every 2 hours keeps those sun spots away!

When all fails though, bring that Costco umbrella. Make it a vibe. Never apologize for sunblocking. =) |
